ENERJ – the project ENERJ (Joint Actions for Energy Efficiency) is an Interreg MED project and aims at enhancing and improving the coordination of Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAP’s) and other relevant energy Efficiency Plans, in order to reach energy savings and the national targets on public buildings’ energy efficiency. The project will develop and test a technologically oriented methodology that focuses on increasing cooperation among public authorities through Joint Actions.

Why should you follow ENERJ? You should follow ENERJ if energy efficiency in buildings is an issue with you and you want to know more about financing and joint implementation. The project concentrates on public buildings and has the ambitious goal of facilitating large-scale joint actions for energy efficiency. An important instrument will be a web platform and we will keep you informed about the on-going work to get it going.

What are we doing in this initial phase? ENERJ got under way in January 2017 in Rome. Since then the partners have been busy to lay the foundations for our common work. In the work package “testing” the buildings are being selected that could undergo energy efficiency retrofitting. Per partner we are talking about a dozen buildings, among them city halls, administration buildings, schools and kindergartens. The energy data collected will go onto the web platform. The interaction with the stakeholders (public administrations, ESCOs, enterprises in the building sector, experts, etc.) is a vital part of ENERJ. In a first round of local conferences the partners are informing their stakeholders about ENERJ, but above all are collecting their feed-back on planned projects, possible joint actions, barriers and obstacles, but also opportunities. The Slovenian Energy Agency GOLEA has already organised the first local conference and presented ENERJ to the consortium of Slovenian Energy Agencies on April 13.

The modular project ENERJ is part of the horizontal project MEDNICE The MED Programme has adopted for the 2014-2020 programming period a new approach, that looks more at project identities and expected results and less at the process or simple outputs. Each project is part of a thematic community, ENERJ forms together with another nine projects (CESBO MEO, EDU FOOTPRINT, IMPULSE, NEW FINANCE, SHERPA, SISMA, STEPPING, PrioritEE, TEESCHOOLS) the Thematic Community “Efficient Buildings”. The horizontal project MEDNICE is active in the creation and exploitation of synergies between the modular projects. This new approach seems particularly important for the subject of energy efficiency, a multi-faceted field of activity that requires profound changes in professional culture and mentality. ENERJ will therefore dedicate particular attention to the collaboration within its thematic community but also with a wider group of projects working in the field of energy efficiency in buildings.

France - ENERJ participation to MEDNICE kick-off meeting
On March 7 and 8, 2017 the MEDNICE consortium, consisting of Euromed Cities Network (lead), Energy Cities, EMUNI, IREC, CMCC and Region of North Aegean invited in Nice its ten modular projects to its kick-off meeting which was also the occasion for a gathering of the Thematic Community "Efficient Buildings". In the new MED Programme architecture the modular projects are the first level, the thematic communities the second and the MED Programme as a whole the third level. In the spirit of multi level governance these are not to be seen in a hierarchical sense but all three levels are closely interconnected and complement one another. The meeting in Nice was a precious opportunity to meet the other projects of the Community and to understand better what can be the specific contribution of each of us to the overriding theme of Energy Efficiency in public buildings. MEDNICE has grouped the ten projects under three topics, “Financing”, “Tools/strategy” and “School buildings”. An impressive number of 136 partners are involved in all the projects together, many of them in more than one and it is an exciting prospect to the able to follow all of them and relate to the ones dealing with similar issues in the course of the next months and years.

On February 22, 2017 Anatoliki invited representatives of the technical services of four municipalities of the wider area of Thessaloniki (Thermi, Thermaikos, Pylaia – Hortiatis and Kalamaria) to discuss the energy audits foreseen as part of the ENERJ project. After the introduction of ENERJ project and its objectives, the discussion focused on the expected results of the energy audits and the municipalities illustrated the buildings to be audited. The exchange focussed on the typology of buildings most suited for energy retrofitting and the availability of data. The municipalities agreed to provide a list of potential buildings for the energy audits in due time.

ENERJ is supported by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Interreg MED Programme.
ENERJ (Joint Actions for Energy Efficiency) supports cities and towns in the implementation of energy efficiency actions in their own buildings as part of their local energy and climate policy. It fosters the collaboration among local governments for Joint Actions. An ENERJ Platform facilitates designing Joint Actions and hosts a database on Local Energy Action Plans and Energy Efficiency measures.
ENERJ project is runnuing from November 2016 until April 2019 with a total budget of Euro 2.26 million. EU Funds Euro 1.92 million. Lead partner: ANATOLIKI S.A. - Development Agency of Eastern Thessaloniki' Local Authorities
